It’s amazing how traveling to a different type of climate than what you’re used to can instantly make you want to dress a different way. I’m not talking hot to cold. In this case of me going from Dallas to Mexico, I went from hot to hot, but being in a tropical climate and spending most days at the beach made me want to incorporate more colorful and tropical pieces into my wardrobe. I picked up this tropical maxi skirt right before I went out of town and it ended up being the perfect piece to throw on for a night of dancing. I love how the slit goes up the middle and the sides of the skirt have a little ruffle to them. The skirt fits at the waist and has the prettiest covered buttons down the middle. For under $25, this tropical maxi skirt is a steal! There is a matching crop top to go with it for under $11, too!
While in Mexico I paired it with a basic silk tank but in today’s post I added this ruffled mustard top and knotted it on the side. If you haven’t noticed, I knot things a lot and usually with purpose. Yes, knotting a tee can be a super cute style statement, but it is also a great way to take those skirts, shirts, dresses, etc. that you thought were too big or too long and with a little knot they are wearable (and stylish) again! To tie in the turquoise and yellow floral print I accessorized with a less than $20 silver and turquoise statement necklace (obsessed with this one and this one), my Gigi New York personalized clutch, and a fun pair of heart shaped sunglasses for under $20. Gigi New York is currently offering a 20% discount on their entire collection of crossbody bags through May 27th with the code: CROSS20, so if you’ve been contemplating purchasing a bag from them, now is the time!
Here are a few more options to create this tropical maxi skirt and crop top look!
